Company shows true grit to support World Transplant Games
14th August 2019
A grit supplier has pledged its support to the World Transplant Games. Shire Aggregates will supply all the grit needed for the Petanque competition that is taking place outside the iconic Sage Gateshead.
The grit supplier has a personal connection to transplantation, with employee Colin Heaney undergoing a kidney transplant three years ago. Since receiving his new kidney Colin has been able to live an active lifestyle and plays golf regularly.
Shire Aggregates will supply around three wagon loads, which equates to 60 tonnes, of grit for the Pentaque competition. Having consulted with Pentanque UK about the optimum surface for the event, the grit will be sourced from the Yorkshire Dales.
Shire Aggregates is a garden and bulk aggregate supplier covering the North of England. With depots around the North of England the company has clients from Sheffield up to Northumberland.
Jonathan Simpson, MD for Shire Aggregates commented: “Having Colin in the office, we can see first-hand the benefits of organ donation and transplantation. We are always keen to support local events and when the opportunity came up with the World Transplant Games, it was the perfect fit.
“We are proud to support the World Transplant Games and are looking forward to watching the athletes compete – especially in the Petanque.”
Petanque is sponsored by PHA UK (Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK.
