Open 7 days per week, this family-friendly historic attractions reveals the story of how Newcastle began, the reason the city got its name and to walk in the the steps of the people who lived and died in the shadow of Newcastle Castle.

This imposing Norman fortress is a reminder of Northern England’s turbulent past. It is no stately home but a reminder of royal authority where armies gathered and criminals were imprisoned and executed. it also has the most commanding views over the city and the River Tyne.


The Traditional Afternoon Tea includes a selection of freshly prepared finger sandwiches, baked scones with preserves and clotted cream, cakes and pastry delights served with your choice of teas or coffee.

The Children’s Afternoon Tea lets the kids play at being grown up with a menu dedicated entirely to the little ones. Sandwiches, sweet treats and milkshakes – perfect for children ages 3 to 12 years.

Prices: £25.50 per adult and £15.75 per child 12 years and under. Includes entrance to Newcastle Castle followed or preceded by afternoon tea at the Vermont Hotel.

Dates: 15 to 25th August inclusive.

Timings: 1 to 5.30pm for Afternoon Tea – three times slots: 1- 2.30pm/2.30-4pm/4-5.30pm. Slots for afternoon tea MUST be booked in advance at time of booking and cannot be amended. The Castle is open 10am to 5pm.
