Jim Kerr – another casual hero 30 years after his heart transplant!

4th June 2019

Debbie Kerr kindly shared her father’s story with us.

My father, Jim Kerr is coming up for his 30th anniversary of his heart transplant at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. I saw him waiting for his transplant and  he was bad – really bad! When he was really ill  (pre-transplant) I could often find him slumped in the workshop area – not something a daughter wants to see. My father is now 82 years old and continues to work!

He has competed in many British and World Transplant Games winning medals on the track. He has lived life to the full, all thanks to a special person and their family, giving my Dad a second chance of life.

My sister Karen and cousins Katie have just completed a mammoth 60 mile cycle ride with all monies going to the Freeman Heart & Lung Transplant Association.
