The Gift of Life Baton Ride

To help kick off the World Transplant Games celebrations the Gift of Life Baton has crossed the width of Australia by motorcycle commencing on the East Coast on the Gold Coast on Wednesday, April 5 and arriving in Perth on Sunday, April 16.

The Baton, designed and produced in Western Australia and to be gifted to the World Transplant Games Federation following these Games, has been carried by motorbike from one of Australia to the other by altruistic donor Gordon Rutty and friends from Gold Coast charity, The Pride of Bettermen and Lionesses.

Gordon donated a kidney altruistically in 2012 and has become a passionate advocate for organ and tissue donation in Australia. He leads the annual Walk to End The Wait and the Orange Ball on the Gold Coast.

The Baton Ride covered 4,600kms crossing through four states, the Nullarbor and Australia’s Outback. It promoted the need for more Australians to register as organ and tissue donors while promoting the beauty and rawness of Australia to an international audience through the World Transplant Games.

Along the way it stopped in a few large cities, more smaller towns and dozens of specks on a map as it promotes the gift of life.
